SONY U.K. AIDS WORKING PARENTS
10/4/22

Sony Music U.K. has stepped up to offer employees a significant financial contribution toward the cost of childcare. The support is valid during working hours for pre-school age children.

The funding will be offered in the form of tapered grants to parents, correlating to individual salaries, and maxing out at £15k per year.

Label boss Jason Iley said the scheme is part of the company’s commitment to ensuring its workforce “reflects all corners of society. This is one of several measures that we have introduced to support parents and increase the proportion of women in roles throughout the company.”

The cost of childcare in the U.K. averages just under £14k a year for a full-time nursery place for a 2-year-old, according to the National Childbirth Trust.

As Liz Jeffery, VP of People Experience at Sony Music U.K. & Ireland, notes, this high price often “forces parents, and particularly mothers, into part-time work or out of the workforce entirely as it becomes financially unviable.”

“We are committed to looking at what we can do to help address issues that can be a barrier for women progressing, and we hope this policy could be the difference between someone returning to work rather than leaving a role.”
